Maryland Governor Appoints Nigerian Business Leader As Chair Of African Affairs Commission

      Dr. Vincent Chukwunonso Iweanoge, a Nigerian-American entrepreneur, lawyer, and philanthropist, has been appointed as the chair of the Governor’s Commission on African Affairs by Maryland Governor Wes Moore. The announcement was made on December 6th, 2023, and the appointment is effective immediately.

Dr. Iweanoge is the founder and CEO of Hotel Concept Group Inc, a hospitality company that operates hotels and resorts in the U.S. and Africa. He is also the principal director of Havit Inc., a business development consulting firm that provides strategic advice and solutions to clients in various sectors, including energy, trade, and power. 

Dr. Iweanoge is a passionate advocate for the African communities in America and has been instrumental in promoting their economic, social, and cultural development. He has served as the chairman of the African Diaspora Advisory Board of Prince George’s County, Maryland, where he initiated several programs and projects to empower the African diaspora. 

 He has also received the African Diaspora Living Legend Global Business Icon for Sustainable Wealth Creation 2023 Award in Frankfurt, Germany, for his exemplary achievements and contributions to the African continent and the global community.

In a part of the appointment letter, Governor Moore expressed his appreciation to Dr. Iweanoge for his leadership and commitment to advancing equity and inclusion across the state and to serving the best interests of all the citizens. He also stated that he looked forward to collaborating with him to ensure that no one in Maryland is left behind.

Maryland, also known as the Old Line State, is the richest state in America for 2022, with the highest median household income in the country. It is home to about 35% of African-Americans and hosts several federal agencies, such as the National Security Agency and the National Institutes of Health, as well as the world’s largest hotel company: Marriott International.

The Governor’s Commission on African Affairs is an advisory body that provides guidance and recommendations to the Governor on matters relating to the African communities in Maryland, such as economic development, education, health, housing, and cultural affairs. The Commission also serves as a liaison between the Governor and the African communities and fosters their welfare and interests.

The appointment of Dr. Iweanoge as the chair of the Governor’s Commission on African Affairs is a testament to his outstanding achievements and contributions to the African communities in America and beyond. He is an inspiration and a role model for many Africans and African-Americans who aspire to make a positive impact in the world.
